Turkey-European Union (EU) Joint Parliamentary Commission meeting will take place in May 25-26 in Istanbul.

JPC released a statement and said the 64th meeting would take place in Hilton Hotel in Istanbul and would be administered by co-chairpersons Lutfi Elvan and Helene Flautre.

The participants will debate recent developments affecting Turkey-EU relations, Turkey's energy and environment policies within the scope of EU acquis, as well as regional policies in EU and Turkey.

The statement said State Minister & Chief Negotiator for the EU talks Egemen Bagis and Turkish Interior Minister Besir Atalay would also attend the meeting.

Turkey-EEC Joint Parliamentary Commission has been established pursuant to European Parliament's decision on 14 May 1965, Turkish Grand National Assembly's decision on 22 June 1965 and decision of Turkey- EEC Association Council on 27 July 1965.

The commission is composed of equal number of members from Turkish Grand National Assembly and European Parliament.

The commission is responsible for the evaluation of issues stemming from the Ankara Agreement (signed on September 12, 1963 between Turkey and the EEC), with particular emphasis on the annual reports submitted by Association Council to the Presidents of Turkish Grand National Assembly and the European Parliament.
