Turkey-EU Partnership Council Meeting set to start in Brussels

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and the country's chief negotiator for European Union membership talks, Egemen Bagis, are set to participate on Monday in a meeting of the Turkey-EU Partnership Council in Brussels.

The Turkish side is expected to urge the Union to remove political obstacles in Turkey's accession process and speed up efforts for free movement of Turkish citizens in the EU.

The 48th Turkey-EU Partnership Council Meeting is set to issue a joint position paper, in which the Union is expected to express welcome for a government-backed constitutional reform bill that had passed by the Turkish parliament earlier this week.

The paper is expected to call for national dialogue in amending the constitution and concrete measures to guarantee every Turkish citizen's rights and freedoms.

The Union is also expected to express support for efforts in Turkey to reform the country's judicial system.
