Turkey FM calls for cooperation against terror

Turkish Foreign Minister Feridun Sinirlioglu has said the cooperation of the Turkic Council is necessary to cope with terrorism.

Speaking at the fifth summit of the international body – which links Turkic-speaking countries – Sinirlioglu said:

“Turkey has been struggling with terrorist organizations like ISIL, the PKK and the DHKP-C. The solidarity and cooperation of members of the Turkic Council with Turkey is necessary in the fight against terror.”

He said Turkey had taken necessary measures to prevent foreign fighters in this regard.

Sinirlioglu also stated that the theme of this year’s summit, being held in Astana, Kazakhstan, ‘Cooperation on Information and Media’ and the collaboration of media outlets would increase the visibility of Turkic Council.

“Establishing a Turkish TV channel is very important for the Turkic world and we give our full support to this project. In this regard, we are ready to share [Turkish state broadcaster] TRT’s experience.”

He also said efforts to make the Turkic Council an observatory member of the UN’s Security Council are continuing.

The Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States was established in 2009; its four founding member states are Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey.
