Turkey donated two million USD to the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) to be used as assistance to Chad and Niger, two countries experiencing lack of food items due to the ongoing drought.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said that Turkey's efforts to ease the pain of countries needing urgent assistance continued and that the country made a donation of two million USD to the WFP within this context.

The WFP is the food aid branch of the United Nations, and the world's largest humanitarian organization addressing hunger worldwide. WFP provides food, on average, to 90 million people per year, 58 million of whom are children. From its headquarters in Rome and more than 80 country offices around the world, WFP works to help people who are unable to produce or obtain enough food for themselves and their families.
