Turkey says no patience for talks based on Greek Cypriot desires

Turkish State Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Cemil Cicek said on Monday that Turkey had no patience for a negotiation process based on the Greek Cypriot party's desires.

Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony of a hotel to be constructed by the Turkish ETS Group in Catalkoy region near Girne province of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Cicek said tourism was a sector of vital importance both for Turkey and TRNC.

Noting that TRNC was a country that had both the will and requirement for investments, Cicek said the country's potential could not be used in the best way.
"I hope the Cyprus issue would also be solved in the next 30 months during which this hotel project will be completed," Cicek said.

Cicek noted that Turkey displayed efforts for a solution in the island, however, it did not desire "a settlement at all costs".

"Turkey has never wanted and will never desire a solution that will result in a u-turn," the deputy premier said.

Pointing to the presence of two nations and two states in Cyprus, Cicek also said, "These are indispensable elements for us. If a peace is to be provided, it should be established on these factors and until the end of this year. We have no patience for a negotiation process based on the Greek Cypriot party's desires."

Delivering a speech at the ceremony, TRNC's Prime Minister Irsen kucuk said that every investment carried out in TRNC contributed to the continuity and stability of the country.

Thanking the ETS Group for its latest hotel investment, Kucuk said ETS carried more than 20,000 tourists to TRNC every year.
