Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, "if Serbia is accepted as a Schengen country and can benefit from its opportunities, Turkey should be included in the Schengen system too."
Prime Minister Erdogan said at a joint news conference with Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou following Turkey-Greece High-Level Cooperation Council meeting, "we attach great importance to development of our economic relations with Greece."
Erdogan recalled that an agreement was signed between Turkey and Greece earlier in the day for visa exemption for holders of special passports.
"If Serbia is accepted as a Schengen country and can benefit from its opportunities, Turkey should be included in the Schengen system too. We will talk about this issue with the European Union officials soon. Serbia has not begun negotiations with the European Union yet. But Turkey-the European Union negotiations are continuing. I believe that Greece will extend the necessary support to us to this end," he added.
