Turkey, South Africa talk about safety steps in mine sector

Turkish Energy & Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz met with South Africa's Mineral Resources Minister Susan Shabangu in Ankara on Tuesday.

Yildiz told reporters that Turkey would share information and views with South Africa about work safety in mining sector.

Yildiz said that the South African minister told him that nearly 200 mine workers died annually in her country although there was high safety in mines.

Shabangu said that Turkey and South Africa could cooperate in legal issues about mining sector.

Noting that Turkey was also very experienced in earthquake issue, Shabangu said that her country operated mines in very deep segments and they could cooperate with Turkey about the measures which could be taken in mines during earthquakes.

Last week, 28 miners died when a coal mine collapsed in the northern province of Zonguldak, two other workers are still missing.
