Energy and transport projects involving Turkey, Georgia and Azerbaijan are to be discussed "at the highest level", said Turkish President Abdullah Gul as he left for talks in the Tbilisi capital of Georgia.

In a press meeting before his departure for the trilateral summit on Monday, Gul said that common projects ongoing between the three countries, such as the Trans-Anatolian (TANAP) gas pipeline and Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, aim to bring further prosperity to South Caucasia.

"We plan to evaluate regional cooperation - especially in regard to energy and transportation - at the highest level between our countries," said Gul, pointing out that previous trilateral summits had been made at the level of foreign ministers several times and the first presidential summit would further the cooperation framework.

The meetingwas agreed when Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili visited Turkey and Azerbaijan earlier this year.

Gul also said the visit would be an opportunity for official meetings to be held between Margvelashvili and Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.
