Turkey highlighted on Friday importance of last week's referendum in Sudan for the continent of Africa.
Turkey's Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement in which it said the week-long referendum for South Sudan's independence was important for not only that country but also for Africa.
"Sudan attaches great importance for Turkey for its historical relations and ties, and Turkey has sincerely supported the peace process in Sudan from the outset," the ministry statement said.
The statement defined the referendum was the most critical stage of that process, and said Turkey hoped that the referendum would be the evidence of Sudan's democratic maturity.
Turkey was determined to maintain its support and assistance to the North and South Sudan, and all Sudanese people, the statement also said.
