Turkey welcomes UN transfer of aid cargo from Israel-attacked ship

Turkey welcomes a decision on transfer of tons of humanitarian aid to Gaza from the international flotilla raided by Israeli naval commandos two weeks ago, Turkish foreign ministry said on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, UN officials confirmed a deal announced by Israeli military that said tons of goods would be delivered to Gaza by the United Nations.

The ministry statement said it was a positive development as the relief project would achieve its goal.

"We also welcome the constructive role played by the United Nations," it said.

Israel seized Gaza-bound convoy of ships carrying tons of humanitarian aid after its commandos raided the ships on May 31, killing nine Turkish Gaza activists.
