The recent developments in the EU economy --with special focus on the Euro-- along with developments in economies of candidate countries will be discussed at the meeting.

Turkey's Babacan will go to Brussels for meeting

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister and State Minister for the economy Ali Babacan will go to Brussels on Monday to attend the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) of the Council of EU.

The recent developments in the EU economy --with special focus on the Euro-- along with developments in economies of candidate countries will be discussed at the meeting.

Babacan who is expected to hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts on the sidelines of the meeting will return to Turkey on Tuesday.

ECOFIN is composed of the Economics and Finance Ministers of the 27 European Union member states,as well as Budget Ministers when budgetary issues are discussed.

The Council which convenes once every month, covers a number of EU policy areas, such as economic policy coordination, economic surveillance, monitoring of Member States' budgetary policy and public finances, the euro (legal, practical and international aspects), financial markets and capital movements and economic relations with third countries.

It also prepares and adopts every year, together with the European Parliament, the budget of the European Union.
