Turkey's FM meets Iraq's Allawi in Ankara

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and Iraq's former Prime Minister Ayad Allawi held a joint press conference in the Turkish capital of Ankara on Monday.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and Iraq's former Prime Minister Ayad Allawi held a joint press conference in the Turkish capital of Ankara on Monday.

Davutoglu said that the elections which took place in Iraq on March 7 was "a turning point" for history of this country and it would contribute to democracy in the country and regional stability.

Turkey considered Iraq a friendly country and it would keep exerting efforts for stability, security and prosperity in Iraq, he said.

All neighboring countries should extend assistance to Iraq, he said.

Davutoglu added he believed that Allawi's experience would make a great contribution to the future of Iraq.

In his part, Allawi said he was glad to hold consultations with Turkish authorities and welcomed Turkey's stance regarding crisis in Iraq and general situation.

Turkey has been supporting political process and democracy in Iraq, he said.

Allawi said Turkey had an important role in the region and also at the international level and its role aimed to secure peace and stability in the region.
