Turkey's head of religious affairs has sent his best wishes to Muslims across world during his first visit ever at al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem Friday.
The Turkish head of religious affairs Mehmet Gormez arrived in Jerusalem Thursday to attend a ceremony to mark Miraj , the day when Muslims believe Prophet Muhammad was given a tour of heaven.
“It is a great honor to pray with our Palestinian brothers at Masjid al-Aqsa during the Miraj day,” Gormez said.
Gormez said that he had been invited to Jerusalem by the Palestinian minister of religious affairs Yusuf Ismail al-Sheikh.
Mehmet Gormez is expected to meet Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Friday during his official visit.
Miraj is observed by Muslims every year on the night of the 27th of Rajab, which designates a certain month in the Islamic calendar.
