Prime Ministry officials said that Premier Erdogan spoke with al-Maliki by phone on Tuesday and congratulated al-Maliki on his new government.

Erdogan underlined the importance of unity of Iraq during phone conversation.

Iraqi parliament in separate votes gave its approval to al-Maliki, three deputy prime ministers and 29 other cabinet members, as well as the government programme on Tuesday.

Appearing at a joint press conference with his Syrian counterpart Muhammed Naci Itri, Erdogan also said he was pleased with the end of the political deadlock in Iraq with the establishment of the new Iraqi Government under Nur al Maliki's leadership.
