Turkey's PM says Iran deal victory for diplomacy

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday that the protocol signed with Iran was in fact a victory for diplomacy.

Speaking at a joint news conference with Kosovo's Prime Minister Hashim Thaci who is in Ankara, Erdogan said, "it was a difficult process, but it could be achieved in the end of this process."

Asked to comment on his telephone conversations with U.S. President Barack Obama and Russian Prime Minister on the matter, Erdogan said, "we had the opportunity to give information to them about the developments. I also have to refer to contributions of Brazil."

Erdogan said Iran reaffirmed that it accepted the conditions related to Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

Foreign ministers of Turkey, Iran and Brazil signed a deal on Monday where Iran committed to give the 1200kg of 3.5% enriched uranium to Turkey in exchange for 20 percent enriched uranium it will receive from Western countries to be used as fuel in the nuclear research reactor in Tehran.

Tehran will receive the enriched uranium from the Vienna Group, comprising of the U.S., France, Russia and International Atomic Energy Agency, in Turkey.
