Turkish army chief in Egypt for meetings

Turkish Chief of General Staff General Ilker Basbug, who is on a formal visit to Egypt, met with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Saturday.

It was a closed-door meeting at the presidential palace in Cairo.

Following his meeting with Mubarak, Basbug was welcomed by Egypt's Defense Minister Hussein Tantawi with an honors ceremony. Their meeting was also closed to press.

Later in the day, Basbug will visit the Unknown Soldier Memorial, tomb of former Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and the Turkish cemetery in Cairo.
