Turkish FM continues contacts in Turkmenistan

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow received Turkey's Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in Ashkhabat on Saturday.

Davutoglu and Berdimuhamedow debated bilateral relations, regional issues, commercial and economic relations and Turkish companies investing in Turkmenistan.

Ahmet Davutoglu is the first Turkish foreign minister visiting Turkmenistan in nine years. He is visiting Turkmenistan to participate in ceremonies to mark the 15th anniversary of neutrality of Turkmenistan.

Earlier on Saturday, Davutoglu delivered a speech in an international conference on "Turkmenistan's Permanent Neutrality: Cooperation for Peace, Security and Development."

On Sunday Davutoglu is expected to meet his Turkmen counterpart Rasit Meredow and sign an action plan covering 2011 and 2012.

Davutoglu will return to Turkey after wrapping up his talks in Turkmenistan.

Turkmenistan is celebrating the 15th anniversary of its permanent neutrality, which gave the country independence from the former Soviet Union. The neutrality was approved by 185 countries on December 12, 1995.
