Turkish FM meets top Greek religious cleric in Chicago

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu paid a visit to Greek Orthodox Metropolitan Bishop Lakovos in Chicago together with a group of community members with Turkish-Greek descent.

Turkish diplomatic sources said Turkey was eager to further improve its ties with Greece and that Turkish and Greek people had friendly relations.

Davutoglu said that Turkey had made major reforms to improve religious freedoms.

The Turkish FM paid a separate visit to Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East Mar Dinkha IV.

Davutoglu also addressed students at the Chicago University, making a speech over the global order and Turkey's role and position in the international arena.

Davutoglu later departed to New York where he is set to participate in a UN meeting on mediation as well as meet separately with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and Ban's Special Adviser in Cyprus Alexander Downer.
