 Turkish Minister to visit Germany to strengthen fight against PKK

Interior Minister Beşir Atalay is set to make an official visit to Germany on Jan. 28 with the aim of strengthening cooperation between Turkey and Germany in the fight against the PKK.

Turkey believes the PKK functions under the guise of civil society organizations in many European countries.

Atalay was invited by his German counterpart, Thomas de Maiziere. The two interior ministers are expected to focus on discussing the PKK's activities in Europe. Atalay will be accompanied by Ömer Altıparmak, head of the intelligence department at the Security General Directorate during the visit.

Atalay will be providing de Maiziere with a detailed report about PKK activities in Europe. The meeting between the two ministers will be held behind closed doors. They are also expected to discuss the activities of a joint committee set up to coordinate cooperation between Turkey and Germany in the fight against terrorism.

The two ministers are also expected to discuss drug smuggling and illegal immigration during the meeting.
