Turkish, Palestinian towns become sister cities

The Municipality of Kecioren town of central Anatolian province of Ankara has signed a protocol with Gaza's Jabalia town that made the two towns "Sister Cities" on Monday.

The ceremony for the protocol in Ankara was attended by the Deputy Mayor of Jabalia Abdurrahim Muhammad Shihab, the Mayor of Bosnian city of Gorazde (also a sister city of Kecioren) Muharrem Ranovic and the Mufti of Gorazde Haji Ahmad Efendic.

Speaking at the ceremony, Shihab said that "Palestine lived its best days under the rule of the Ottomans. With today's protocol, Palestine will re-live its best days".

Shihab also said that they were building a big park in their town in which the memories of those killed in the Mavi Marmara attack of Israel last May will live on.

Mayor of Kecioren Mustafa Ak, in his part, said that there was an avenue called "Gaza Avenue" and a park with the name "Palestine Park" in Kecioren.

Our support to the Palestinian people will continue, Ak added.
