Turkish President Abdullah Gul received Mustafa Abdulcemil Kirimoglu, chairman of the Crimean Tatar National Assembly, in Ankara on Wednesday.

The meeting, which took place at Cankaya Presidential Palace, was closed to press.

Earlier in the day, Turkish State Minister Faruk Celik also received Kirimoglu.

Celik said that the guest chairman and his delegation demanded to meet with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss problems of Crimean Tatars and solution of these problems.

They would try to organize a meeting between the guest delegation and Erdogan, Celik said.

Kirimoglu will hold a meeting with Parliament Speaker Mehmet Ali Sahin too.

Meanwhile, the visit comes as Erdogan will travel to Ukraine on an official trip on January 24 and 25.

In a statement issued Monday, the Turkish Prime Ministry's Press Center said that Erdogan will meet with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and Prime Minister Mykola Azarov.

Erdogan and Yanukovych are expected to sign a Joint Declaration for the establishment of a High Level Strategic Council between the two countries, the Press Center said.

Prime Minister Erdogan will participate in a meeting of the Turkish-Ukrainian Business Council in Kiev on January 25, the Press Center also said.
