Turkish president receives Cameroon's parliament speaker

Turkish President Abdullah Gul received Cameroon Parliament Speaker Cavaye Yeguie Djibril in Turkish capital of Ankara on Wednesday.

Turkish Parliament Speaker Cemil Cicek also attended the closed-door meeting in Cankaya Presidential Palace.

Earlier Cicek met with his Cameroonian counterpart Djibril.

Speaking after the meeting, Cicek said Turkey had launched a comprehensive program in Africa and that relations between Turkey and Cameroon had made a remarkable progress in every field since 2010.

"We have opened the Turkish embassy in the Cameroonian capital and the Turkish president visited the country, which set a milestone in the development of our relations. We have no political problems with Cameroon, which means that there is a lot to do to boost our economic and trade relations," Cicek said.

Cicek said Djibril's visit would help develop closer relations on the level of parliaments, which he said should adopt in the shortest possible time protocols and agreements signed earlier between the two countries to set the legal foundations of the relations.

Cicek also called on Turkish contractors to make investments in Cameroon's construction sector.

Djibril, on his part, said his country was very eager to work with Turkey, adding that launching direct flights between the two countries would help business relations develop much faster.
