Turkish President Abdullah Gul on Tuesday opened war cemetery built in Sanaa in memory of Turkish soldiers killed in Yemen.
Speaking at the opening, President Gul said territories of Yemen had been Ottoman land once upon a time and added, "Our ancestors defended this territory for 400 years".
Gul also thanked Yemen's President and other executives over the opening of the war cemetery.
Prior to the opening ceremony, Gul received Yemeni Minister of Foreign Affairs Abu Bakr Abdallah al-Qirbi. The meeting was closed to the media.
Speaking to journalists, Gul expressed his sorrow over the helicopter crash in Ankara on Monday which killed 5 officers.
Search and rescue teams spotted the crash site near the Turkish capital Ankara and discovered the wreckage of the UH-1 helicopter late Monday. They reported that all five pilots on board were killed.
