The Iraqi foreign minister said on Friday that his country could understand Turkey's rightful security concerns over the terrorist organization PKK.
Iraq's Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said Iraq could understand Turkey's rightful security concerns over PKK; however most of the members of the militant organization whom Turkey asked to be extradited were in regions out of the control of the Iraqi government.
"These people are on the mountains, they are insurgents, they are wanted and they are out of the area under Iraqi government's control," Zebari told in an interview with the Voice of America.
Zebari said Iraq was doing everything in its power in the trilateral committee set up with the Turkish and U.S. governments to quell and take under control harmful acts.
According to media reports, Turkey has handed over a list of 248 people who are the top members of the terrorist organization PKK to the United States, Iraq and the regional administration in the north of Iraq, requesting their extradition.
