2011 announced as 'Year of Turkey' in Leningrad

 

Leningrad Region Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Russian Federation announced 2011 as "Year of Turkey."

Ankara Chamber of Industry (ASO) Chairman Nurettin Ozdebir, Deputy Chairman Onder Bulbuloglu and a group of journalists arrived in St. Petersburg on Friday to attend Leningrad Region Business Circles Winter Assembly.

Addressing the assembly, Ozdebir said Leningrad Region Chamber of Commerce & Industry Chairman Rashid Ismagilov, during his visit to Turkey last spring, visited ASO 1st Organized Industry Zone in Sincan region in Ankara and admired this place. Ozdebir said Ismagilov asked for support to establish an Organized Industrial Zone in Leningrad Region.

Ozdebir said the Organized Industrial Zone would be constructed in St. Petersburg by a Turkish company Ronesans Construction and ASO.

Ozdebir also welcomed announcement of 2011 as the "Year of Turkey" in Leningrad.
"Commercial relations are definitely important for peoples of the two countries. However boosting cultural relations is also important," he said.

Ozdebir said Turkey and Russia were the two big economies in the region from Germany to China and from the North Pole to South Pole, "it will be advantageous for Russia to get introduced with not only the construction sector of Turkey but also with its machine industry and other products."

Ozdebir said Turkey had rich natural resources but totally dependent on abroad for energy, adding that, "98 percent of Turkey's export is comprised of industrial products. Turkey and Russia are the two countries whose stars shine under crisis conditions."

Leningrad Governor Valeri Serdyukov said this assembly has become traditional, adding that 2010 was a tough year for them because of the crisis.

"Despite this we developed new projects and attracted new investments and technologies in our country. Number of foreign investors increased in our region in the past 10 years. This is a symbol of confidence," he said.

Ismagilov said they announced 2011 as the "Year of Turkey" in Leningrad because of the new Organized Industrial Zone and contributions of ASO on the matter. He sad Ronesans Construction was a very important company.

Leningrad Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry was established on August 1, 1927. Located in the North-West of the Russian Federation, it covers the area of 85 900 km² and shares borders with Finland and Estonia, and also neighboring with five other administrative regions of the Russian Federation. The Leningrad Region is an administrative unit of the Russian Federation consisting of 17 municipalities with 62 urbanized and 142 rural communities and one municipal district.
