The total number of new companies established in Turkey in 2013 amounted to 49,943, Customs and Trade Minister Hayati Yazici said on Wednesday at a press conference in Ankara.
In 2012, 39,764 companies were added, Yazici said. “The total number of business enterprises in the country reached 1.543 million.”
The majority of the newly established companies are in the retail sector, with 13,668 established in 2013. The construction and manufacturing divisions registered 8,197 and 7,208 new businesses, respectively.
“Over 1.4 million small enterprises operate in Turkey. There are 107,549 large incorporated companies currently registered,” Yazici said.
The number of businesses that closed down in 2013 increased 9.67 percent reaching to 15,538, according to a report published by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB).
TOBB´s report shows 3,875 foreign-funded new companies established in 2013, up from the 3,703 registered in 2012.
The report also said that out of the total number of foreign-funded companies in 2013, 489 were funded from Syria, 394 were German-funded, and 280 were financed by Iran.
According to data from Turkey’s Ministry of the Economy, 34,479 companies operate with international capital, as of June 2013.
The ministry said 20,298 of the companies operate out of Istanbul, with 7,677 in the wholesale and retail market, 3,169 in real estate, and 3,027 in manufacturing.Güncelleme Tarihi: 23 Ocak 2014, 11:10
