Exports worth 5.1 billion USD passed through the Habur Border Gate in Silopi town of south-eastern province of Sirnak in 2010.
In a statement issued Friday, General Manager of Habur Customs, Rifat Bolat, said that in 2010 1,638,428 vehicles and 3,338,190 individuals passed through the Habur Border Gate.
Most of the exports that went through the Habur Border Gate involved construction materials. Aside from the construction items, large amounts of potatoes and onions were exported through the Habur Border Gate.
Turkey has 14 border gates. Habur's total vehicle and passengers volume is equal to that of 14 border gates, Bolat said.
Compared to previous years, the amount of vehicles and passengers using Habur Border Gate has increased by 20 percent. There are no delays in vehicle or passenger traffic at the Habur Border Gate. It takes only 15 minutes per vehicle to go through the Habur Border Gate, Bolat also said.
