Seyfettin Azizoglu, governor of Turkey's northeastern city of Ardahan, stated on Tuesday that a ceremony for the groundbreaking of Aktas Border Gate on the Turkey-Georgia border would be held this month.

Azizoglu told a press conference, "This gate has such importance for us cause after Habur and Sarp, it will be Turkey's third biggest border gate."

He added that the construction period has taken an official start.

He noted that the border gate will be completed by Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey, or

TOBB, by build-operate-transfer model and said, "It will be easier to expand Caucasia and Central Asia with Aktas border gate. This gate will be our most important connection point with Central Asia."

He said that there will be changes in Turkgozu border gate as well and afterwards it will serve for 24 hours.
Azizoglu said, "Turkgozu border gate which opens to Georgia will become more active."

He said that with the opening of the Aktas Border Gate, the city of Ardahan will have two border gates.
