Boosting Greek ties one of top priorities: Turkish economy minister

Turkish economy minister has said his country was eager to further improve relations with Greece in all areas.

"Boosting our relations with Greece in any field is one of our fundamental principles in our foreign policy," Ali Babacan told reporters after a series of meetings in Athens with Greek counterpart, finance minister and the Greek premier.

Babacan said Turkey has signed a high level strategic cooperation agreement with several countries including Spain and Italy, adding that Ankara was willing to sign a similar deal with Greece as well.

The Turkish minister said Turkey attached great importance to economic relations with Greece with an eye to boost trade volume and mutual investments.

"We need to give a fresh momentum to Turkish-Greek relations and to carry them to a whole new level of cooperation which will contribute to issues that seemed problematic between the two countries," Babacan.

Babacan is expected to deliver a speech at a conference organized by The Economist before meeting with Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Droutsas.

The Turkish minister is set to return to Turkey later today.
