Bruderle: Turkey important partner of Germany, Europe

German economics minister said on Wednesday that Turkey was an important partner of Germany and Europe.

Prior to his visit to Turkey scheduled to begin on Wednesday, Germany's Economics & Technology Rainer Bruderle replied to questions of AA reporter in Berlin.

Bruderle said that despite challenging fiscal and economic conditions, relations between Turkey and Germany were perfect.

Answering a question on matters that he would focus on during his Turkey visit, Bruderle said opportunities and potentials would be discussed to weather effects of economic crisis. Improvement of infrastructure, industrial cooperation, renewable energy and tourism were also significant issues, he said.

Germany was the biggest investor in Turkey, and several German companies made investments there since 1962, Bruderle said. There has been a strong bilateral manufacturing network especially in the automotive sector between the two countries, he said.

Bruderle said Turkey could reach 6 percent of growth rate in the coming period.

Replying to a question, Bruderle said nearly 2.5 million Turkish people were living in Germany and over 60,000 Turkish companies contributed to German economy.

Bruderle will meet with Turkish State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan in Ankara on Wednesday, said a statement issued by the Germany Ministry of Economics and Technology.

He will later receive a briefing from the German Ambassador in Ankara Eckart Cuntz and attend a dinner to be hosted by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB). The dinner will also be attended by German businesspeople in Bruderle's delegation.

On May 27, Minister Bruederle will proceed to Istanbul and meet with the members of the executive board of the Turkish-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

Bruderle will depart from Turkey on May 28.
