Canada says soon to sign double taxation deal with Turkey

Turkey and Canada will soon sign a double taxation agreement, Canada's International Trade Minister said on Tuesday.

The agreement will be signed by the end of the year, Peter Van Loan told a meeting of Turkey-Canada Business Forum in Istanbul.

Van Loan said that Turkey's State Minister for foreign trade Zafer Caglayan was also working on a draft agreement which he said would take effect in 2011.

Van Loan also said that his country was very eager to boost trade with Turkey, that's why it opened a consulate-general and plans to open an office of the Export Development Canada in Istanbul.

He said Canadian government was seeking new investments in Turkey, adding that companies of the two countries could work together especially in energy as Canada, which he described as a super power in energy, had great experiences in the industry. He said other cooperation opportunities could be found in tourism, technology, transportation and mining industries.

Van Loan also called on Turkish firms to invest in his country and collaborate with Canadian companies.
