Canada trade minister: Turkey one of four target markets

Canadian International Trade Minister Peter Van Loan said Turkey was a potential privileged trade partner and one of the four target markets for Canada together with China, India and Brazil.

In an interview with AA on Friday, Van Loan said Turkey was one of the four target markets for Canada together with China, India and Brazil with its rapidly growing economy, and demography.

Referring to "the prevention of double taxation" agreement signed between the two countries, the Canadian minister said Canada and Turkey worked together to promote their bilateral trade.

Van Loan said he hoped the agreement would be approved until the end of the year. He said the Consulate and the Regional Development office opened in Istanbul during his visit were the signs of importance his country attached to Turkey.

Van Loan said his country was one of the fastest growing G7 countries that managed to recover quickly from the crisis. He said Canada was a destination of investment opportunities for Turkish businessmen with low taxes for businesses creating new jobs, and its qualified workforce.
