Cattle meat prices were up 14.4 percent year-on-year in Turkey in 2009, the statistical board said on Friday,

Turkey's Statistical Board (TurkStat) released prices and values of livestock and animal products statistics in 2009, and said the cattle meat prices were up 14.4 percent in 2009 over 2008.

Sheep meat prices were up 19.2 percent, and poultry meat was up 29.4 percent year-on-year in 2009.

Cattle meat prices reached 13.41 TL, sheep meat 13.27 TL, chicken meat 4.78 TL, turkey meat 6.77 TL.

Cattle-culture prices were up 6 percent and reached 2,533.6 Turkish liras (TL), whereas cattle domestic prices rose 16.3 percent to 1,391.3 TL in 2009 over 2008.

Calves culture prices increased 9.8 percent to 1,279.7 TL, and domestic calves culture prices reached 725.2 TL with a 15.4 percent rise.

Also, the prices of merinos sheep, domestic sheep, angora goats and ordinary goats increased respectively 15.1 percent, 25.7 percent, 22.5 percent and 29.3 percent year-on-year in 2009.

Price of broiler from poultry increased 21 percent to 8.1 TL. Similarly, price of laying hens reached 9.1 TL with 11.6 percent increase.

In 2009, price of "cow milk" decreased by 0.7 percent to 0.79 TL, whereas sheep milk prices were up 10.9 percent to 1.17 TL.

Hen egg and honey prices reached 0.21 TL and 16.86 TL with 8.2 percent and 11.2 percent increases respectively.
