A ceremony took place in Accra, Ghana on Friday on occasion of Turkey's national air carrier's starting Ghana flights on July 15.

Asaf Ahmet Bora, vice general manager of Turkish Airlines (THY), delivering a speech in the ceremony, said that THY flights to Ghana was an indication of importance attached to this country.

Turkey launched initiatives to boost ties with Ghana in 1998 and there has been a strategic partnership between the two countries since then, Bora said.

Accra has become THY's 127th destination in its overseas network and the number of destinations would reach 133 at the end of 2010, Bora said.

THY flies from Istanbul to capital city of Accra through Lagos, Nigeria. THY flights are conducted four times a week, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
