Confidence among Turkish retailers was up in April, according to a report by an economic studies foundation in Turkey.

The retailers confidence index rose 18.4 points in April over the same time last year, marking a 0.8 percent year-on-year slide, the report by Turkish Economic Studies Foundation (TEPAV) said.

The drop in TEPAV's RCI report was 9.8 percent in April 2009.

Nearly 48.5 percent of the retailers participated in the survey have said they expected improvement in business within the next three months as 30.5 percent of them said it would get worse.

Index recorded the highest year-on-year increase with 19.04 points in furniture, lighting and household equipments, which was followed by textiles, ready-wear and shoe.

The index slide 1.65 percent in food, beverages and tobacco products, and it was also down 5.9 points in electric home appliances, radio and television sets.
