Dozens of Turkish workers trapped in mine blast

Twenty-five workers were trapped after an explosion in a coal mine in northern Turkey, country's labor minister said on Monday.

Omer Dincer said efforts were underway to reach the workers at the Karadon coal mine in the Black Sea port city of Zonguldak.

Zonguldak governor Erdal Ata said 11 miners have already been rushed to a nearby hospital after the blast.

No statement was made regarding cause of the explosion.

Fifteen workers were killed in another mine explosion early in March in the northwestern province of Balikesir.

Turkey's worst mining disaster was in 1992 when a blast killed 270 miners near Zonguldak.
