Egypt on Wednesday decided to discontinue the supply of 90-octane gasoline due to "low demand," an Egyptian official said.
Four categories of gasoline are generally available in Egypt: 90-octane, 92-octane and 80-octane – all sold at petrol stations at subsidized rates – and 95-octane,whichis sold at the cost of production.
According to Tarek al-Mulla, executive director of the state-run General Petroleum Corporation, Egyptian motorists consume only 4 percent of the 90-octane gasoline in the market.
He added that some 950,000 liters of 80-octane and 92-octane gasoline were pumped into the Egyptian market every day.
