Emerging economies including Turkey to overtake G7

Emerging economies that included Brazil, China, Russia, India, Indonesia, Mexico and Turkey will overtake G7 countries by 2050, consultancy group Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC) has estimated in its "The World in 2050" report.

The PWC report is based on findings on the relative size of different economies, now and in 2050, in terms of two alternative measures of GDP at market exchange rates (MERs) and at purchasing power parities (PPPs).

PWC estimates that Turkey will overtake Canada in 2020 on GDP at PPP ranking, and in 2024 it will overtake Italy on GDP at PPP ranking and Australia on GDP at MER ranking.

The report says Turkey will overtake South Korea in 2028 and in 2031 on GDP at PPP ranking and GDP at MER ranking, respectively.

Turkey will overtake Italy on GDP at PPP ranking and on GDP at MER ranking in 2033 and in 2042, respectively. In 2035, Turkey will overtake Spain on GDP at MER ranking.
