Exports from Southeastern Turkey rise to $5.9 bln in 2010

Exports of Turkey's Southeastern Anatolia Region rose to 5.9 billion USD in 2010, a regional association said on Monday.

Abdulkadir Cikmaz, the chairman of the Southeastern Anatolia Exporters' Association (GAIB), said the region's exports were up 33 percent year-on-year in 2010, and reached 5.9 billion USD.

"Our exports were three-folds up when compared with Turkey's overall exports, as Turkey's exports were up 10.4 percent but our region's exports were up 33.5 percent," Cikmaz told a press conference in the southeastern province of Gaziantep.

Cikmaz said the association was pleased to approach to its year-end export target which was 6 billion USD.

The Southeastern Anatolia Region exported to 170 countries in 2010.

Cikmaz also said the region aimed to raise its exports to 7.5 billion USD in 2011.
