Freezing weather in Europe boosts Turkey's salt exports

Bone-chilling cold and heavy snow fall in Europe proved to be a lucrative business for salt producers in Turkey, sending exports skyrocketing almost seven folds over a year earlier.

Producers have exported as high as 400 thousand tons of raw salt to European countries so far, prompting a round-the-clock production in many plants at the Salt Lake in central Anatolia.

The Netherlands, Germany, Ireland, Denmark, Belgium and France were the major buyers of the Turkish salt in Europe, which is estimated to need a total of 2 million tons of salt a year.
