Businesspeople of the south-eastern province of Kahramanmaras increased their exports to Brazil by 130 percent in the first nine months of 2012, when compared to the same term last year, after they began searching for new markets due to the economic crisis and stagnation in Europe.

Kahramanmaras is one of the most important trade centers of Turkey. The province attracts high attention with its production in the textiles sector. 500 factories in 35 sectors produce industrial goods worth over 3 billion USD. More than 100,000 people are employed by the private sector in Kahramanmaras. The province produces 35 percent of all thread and 10 percent of all fabric in Turkey. Kahramanmaras is the leader in Turkey when it comes to metal kitchen equipment.

Entrepreneurs of Kahramanmaras began seeking for new markets after the economic crisis in Europe. They began focusing on the Brazilian market in 2012. In the first nine months of 2012, Kahramanmaras's exports to Brazil went up 130 percent when compared to the same term last year and reached a figure of 52.9 million USD. In September, Kahramanmaras's exports to Brazil went up 125 percent when compared to the same month a year ago and reached a figure of 7.2 million USD.

Speaking to the Anadolu Agency (AA), the Chairman of the Executive Board of the Chamber of Trade and Industry of Kahramanmaras (KMTSO), Kemal Karakucuk stressed that they would continue to seek for new markets following the economic crisis in Europe.

"Brazil has become our new partner. We export a large amount of thread and fabric to Brazil. An anti-damping investigation in Brazil resulted in favor of Turkey. We became highly hopeful for the future with the result of the investigation. Our exports to Brazil in the first nine months of 2012 went up 130 percent. We will go to all countries in all corners of the world to boost our sales," Karakucuk also said.
