Minister hopes Turkey to exceed export target

Turkish state minister for foreign trade said Friday that Turkey was likely to exceed government's export target in 2010.

"If we continue this trend, and if we do not see any setback in the global economy, I believe Turkey's exports will exceed $115 billion this year," Caglayan told a conference on Turkish exports.

Earlier in the day, Caglayan had said Turkey's exports were up 21.4 percent between January 1 and March 24 when compared to the same period last year. Exports reached $23.3 billion in this period.

During the period from March 1 to March 25 alone, Turkey's exports were worth more than $7.5 million. It was $5.5 billion in the same term of 2009.

"Turkey continues its upward trend started last year," he said.

Recalling Turkey's $132 billion exports in 2008 which dropped to $102 billion a year later, Caglayan said, "our target was set as $107.5 billion for 2010. But I think we will go beyond that amount."
