Minister says 8-10 pc growth expected in Turkish economy in Q2

Turkey's industry minister said on Tuesday that an 8-10 percent growth was expected in Turkish economy in the second quarter.

Speaking at a program broadcast by private TV channel CNN Turk, Turkish Industry & Trade Minister Nihat Ergun said a double-digit growth rate around 10 percent would be achieved as of the first half of July 2010 when the growth performance in the first two quarters were taken into consideration.

"When we look at the whole year in general, Turkish economy will achieve a growth rate of 6 percent or more," Ergun said.

Commenting on the industrial production figures made public today, Ergun noted that there had been a certain improvement in the country's industrial production since March-April 2009.

Pointing to the 8.6 percent increase in industrial production figures in July 2010 over the same period of 2009, Ergun said a 0.3-0.5 percent rise had been recorded compared to the previous month as well.

Regarding Turkey's unemployment rate, the minister said 2010 would be completed with a nearly 10-11 percent unemployment rate, adding that a similar figure was envisaged for the year 2010.

Upon a question on fiscal order, Ergun said fiscal order would be an advantageous implementation for Turkey and it would bring a second assurance system.

The industrial production index was up 8.6 percent in July 2010 over July 2009, Turkey's statistical board (TurkStat) said on Tuesday.

The industrial production index was down 0.3 percent in July 2010 over June 2010.
