Minister says Turkey-Netherlands trade volume can rise to $ 10 bln

The Turkish trade minister said on Saturday that he believed Turkey could raise its trade volume with the Netherlands to 10 billion USD in a few years.

Turkey's Industry & Trade Minister Nihat Ergun said that Turkey wanted to make more trade with the Netherlands.

"I believe we can raise our trade volume over 10 billion USD in a few years," Ergun said during the Fourth Maastricht Economy Summit in the Netherlands.

Ergun said Turks living in the Netherlands had 6 billion USD of investments, and employed more than 60,000 people in that country.

"Turkey and the Netherlands could increase mutual investments, and joint investments in other countries," he said.

Ergun said Dutch companies had a total capital of 32 billion USD in Turkey, and Turkish businessmen should raise their investments in the Netherlands, worth 4.2 billion USD.

Turkish-Dutch trade volume was 2.3 billion USD in 2002, and this figure reached 6.2 billion USD in 2008. However, it fell to 4.6 billion USD in 2009 due to global economic crisis.
