Minister says Turkish, Nigerian businesspeople can work together

Turkish State Minister for foreign trade Zafer Caglayan said Monday that Turkey paid special importance to Africa and that Nigeria was the shining star of the region.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Turkish-Nigerian Business Forum meeting in Nigerian capital of Abuja, Caglayan made a call on Nigerian businesspeople to "run together with Turkish counterparts in order to survive in the global economy".

Turkish businesspeople, especially owners of small and medium scale businesses, want to share their experiences with Nigeria. Turkish and Nigerian businesspeople can work together in Nigeria and in third countries. Turkish businesspeople want to invest in the future of Nigeria. The world economy's axis has shifted to developing countries. We must hurry up. Nigeria will be an important actor in the future of Africa. There is no need to wait for 100 years to see this. If we want to see those days, we need to act immediately. We want to run fast with you, Caglayan said.

The businesspeople of Turkey and Nigeria can cooperate in the fields of energy, mining, hotel construction, textiles and transportation, Caglayan stressed.

Nigerian businesspeople should take into account Turkey's proximity to Europe, regional countries and Turkey's young population, Caglayan also said.

Caglayan and his delegation will proceed to Ghana's capital of Accra on Monday night.
