Turkey posted a net International Direct Investment inflow of 2.56 billion USD in the first five months of 2010, down 33.6 percent year-on-year, Turkish Treasury said on Tuesday.
Net international direct investment inflow to Turkey was 3.86 billion USD in Jan-May 2009.
International direct investment inflow includes the net amount of transfers classified as "capital" and "other capital" in the balance of payment statistics of the Central Bank of Turkey, from abroad by the firms operating according to the "Foreign Direct Investment Law" and transfers for the real estate purchases of foreigners in Turkey.
International direct investment inflow in May 2010 was recorded at 303 million USD, a Treasury report said.
The equity investment inflow, which represents the equity share transfers of international investors for their new or existing companies in Turkey, and for their participation into the existing domestic companies, stood at 131 million USD. 36 million USD of this has been into manufacturing sector.
86 million USD of the 131 million USD equity investment has been exported by the EU countries.
The report showed that 176 companies with international capital have been established and 24 foreign capital participation to the existing domestic companies incurred in May 2010.
In the first five months of 2010, 1,059 companies and branch offices with international capital have been established and 193 international capital participation to the existing domestic companies incurred.
In the January-May period in 2010, majority of the total 1,252 companies with international capital is in the wholesale and retail trade sectors while real estate renting and business activities and manufacturing sectors follow. Food beverage products lead the manufacturing sector investments followed by chemicals-chemical products, machinery and equipment sector.
517 of the total 1,252 companies are of EU origin, 311 companies are of Near and Middle East countries and 206 companies are of other European countries.
Currently, a total of 24,924 companies with international capital are operating in Turkey.
