New Turkish Cyprus airline firm to be established on Dec 30

Prime Minister Irsen Kucuk of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said on Wednesday that the Turkish Cypriot state, private sector and the Turkish Airlines (THY) would establish a new airline company on December 30.

Kucuk told reporters that they would discuss the issue during Wednesday's meeting of the TRNC Council of Ministers.

In June, Civil Aviation Directorate General of Turkey suspended the operating license of Turkish Cypriot Airlines (KTHY) which was in financial crisis. KTHY suspended its flights.

Recently, TRNC Council of Ministers has decided that 60 percent shares of the new airline company would belong to private sector, 30 percent to the state, and 10 percent to THY. The new company is planned to begin flights in March or April, 2011.

Also commenting on the economy, Kucuk said that the growth speed of TRNC's economy was in minus level in 2009, but a positive tendency began as of the end of 2010.

Kucuk also said that Turkey declared 2011 as "TRNC Year" in tourism which would bring momentum to tourism sector in TRNC in 2011.
