N.Iraq energy official says ready to contribute to Nabucco pipeline

Energy representative of the regional administration in north of Iraq, Ashti Hawram said they were ready to give their surplus natural gas to Nabucco pipeline project.

Hawram who is in the delegation of Masud Barzani, head of the regional administration in north of Iraq, currently visiting Turkey, was received by Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz in Ankara.

Hawram said 7 fields were discovered in the last three years, underlining that their region housed a significant reserve of natural gas.

"We want to be one of the supplier countries of Nabucco. We are ready to give our extra gas to Nabucco pipeline project," said Hawram.

He said the Turkish companies made important contributions to oil and gas explorations and made major discoveries, and were working to make exports from Iraq.

"A Turkish company will make the first oil exports from Iraq," said Hawram. He said they recently signed an agreement with the federal government in Iraq, adding that initially 100 thousand barrels of oil would be exported per day and later this would gradually be increased to 1 million barrels per day.

In his part, Yildiz said new oil and gas pipelines would be needed between Turkey and Iraq, adding that they were holding talks with the Iraqi party on the issue.

Yildiz also said that the Iraqi side wanted to be one of the supplier countries of the Nabucco pipeline project.

Referring to Iraqi Premier Nuri Al Maliki's earlier remarks saying that they wanted to provide 15 billion cubic meters of gas to Nabucco, Yildiz said he believed this would be actualised over the years.
