Turkey's carmaker Oyak Renault, co-owned by Turkish Armed Forces Pension Fund, Oyak, and French automotive giant, Renault, has become Turkey's largest exporter company in 2009, according to statistics given by Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TIM).
Oyak Renault shipped cars worth 3.01 billion USD, TIM chairman Mehmet Buyukeksi told a press conference where he announced top 1000 exporters of Turkey.
Total exports from Turkey in 2009 was 102.1 billion USD, down from 132 billion a year earlier. Buyukeski said 62 percent of country's total exports were made by those top 1000 companies.
Oyak Renault was followed by electronics and home appliances producer Vestel with 2.084 billion USD of exports and another carmaker Ford Otomotiv with 2.081 billion USD.
Top 20 exporter companies are Tofas, Tupras, Arcelik, Toyota Otomotiv, Habas, Icdas, GSD Dis Ticaret, Diler Dis Ticaret, Sisecam, Colakoglu Dis Ticaret, BSH Ev Aletleri, Pergamon-Status, Bosch Sanayi ve Ticaret, Mercedes-Benz Turk, Yucel Boru, Trakya Tekstil and Eti Maden.
Big majority of exporter companies are located in Istanbul. Others are mostly in Izmir, Bursa, Ankara and Gaziantep.
