Sanofi-Aventis Group, a pharmaceutical company, has picked Turkey as a production base.

The group will export 20 million boxes of antibiotics active ingredients to 29 countries from its factory in Luleburgaz town of the northwestern province of Kirklareli in 2010.

Sanofi-Aventis Group Turkey Director Olivier Guillaume said on Thursday that the group had nearly 105,000 personnel, and its annual turnover was 29.3 billion euro in 2009.

Research and development activities of the company were pursued by 12,520 personnel in 28 facilities in three continents, Guillaume said and stated that they reserved 16 percent of net sales of the company for research and development in 2009. He added that the company made 4.5 billion euro of investment in research and development.

Guillaume said that Turkey had an important place for Sanofi-Aventis group, adding that the group increased its market share to 7.6 percent and became leader in pharmaceutical sector in Turkey.

Guillaume added that Luleburgaz facility had been working with 30 percent capacity so far, adding that the capacity would be increased to 50 percent in 2010.
